New Blog Schedule
—
tl;dr: will post twice a month now, stay up to date with my RSS Feed
It's been a few years since my last technical post, and really I've never blogged consistently outside of my annual garden report. I'd like to change that for a couple reasons.
- Writing is a good habit and a good skill to grow in
- I have thoughts and ideas I'd like to formalize and articulate publicly
I've historically been a below average writer (I have always strugged with spelling and grammar in school and beyond) and it's not very energizing for me, it takes active willpower to sit down and write a post. On the other hand, instead of expressing my ideas in writing, I will usually just start a side project, hoping that will provide a sandbox to express and explore my ideas.
This year (2026) I've committed to writing 2 blog posts a month starting this month in May. I have a couple tricks to use to hopefully keep myself motivated and on top of things.
- Write short and thoughtful posts. If a post drones on, I will either shorten it or split it into a multipart series
- I will write "badly" on purpose, prioritizing writing about what I'm thinking about rather than worrying about whether it feels captivating, interesting or clever
- Include topics about whatever interests or strikes me in the moment. I will avoid how-tos and informative posts, favoring posts about my experiences, opinions and ideas.
- I will keep a running list of ideas for posts, plus a backlog of 2 to 3 in progress posts at any given moment as a buffer
With the new schedule I've (finally) got around to introducing an RSS Feed! (using org-publish-rss to generate the feed)
This is my first time implementing such a feed, so if anyone has feedback, or for any other comments please don't hesitate to email me: kyle [at] periks [dot] net
